How To Create A Landing Page For Instagram (WP MyLinks Review)

WP MyLinks: Create A Landing Page For Instagram

We have lots of customers at WPZOOM, with a large portion of them using video content and imagery to promote their business on Instagram.

Having a quality Instagram bio is part of the process of promotion, with catchy text and a link (one link) to their website.

What if there was a way to create an Instagram bio link using WordPress, with strong calls to action, and reflective of your website?

In this tutorial, we’re going to show you how to do just that. With a clean Instagram bio link page, helping point visitors to links you’d like to focus on.

Before we go into the how and why, let us explain.

You’ve probably heard of services such as LinkTree, BioLinky, ContactInBio, to name but a few. All excellent solutions for making micro landing pages for Instagram, Twitter, and such.

The premise is simple. You only get one link in social media profiles. The idea of these services is to create a landing page for visitors.

When someone clicks on a link in your social media bio, these services offer a design specially made for mobile devices. See below for an image of an example from LinkTree.

Micro landing pages are very popular within the Instagram food blogging niche. Many of our customers are food bloggers, and nothing sells a recipe more than a quality image.

It doesn’t end there, though; many bloggers use this method irrespective of the subject they write about. It’s a great way to add calls to action, and highlight links that they think will be of interest.

Many visitors to social media platforms come from mobile devices. Services offering links in bios and subsequent micro landing pages are experiencing a lot of growth.

There Are a Few Drawbacks to Using These Services:

  • Cost, some are freemium (with paid-for upgrades, like removing logo/branding).
  • Loss of branding, URLs would be bioservice.co/sam instead of on your domain name.
  • Some platforms restrict certain functionality (unless you upgrade), such as adding Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, and other tracking methods.

So now we know there are some issues to using a service to create a landing page for Instagram. What can you do about it? Don’t worry; we’re going to show you how to create a bio page for your Instagram business or any social media platform you use.

Custom scripts and tracking is only available in this section. It’s not available on a per-link page basis. So if you’d like to track how many visits your bio page has, irrespective of what platform you’re using it on, you’ll need to add some code here.

Familiar with CSS? If you are, you can use the custom styles box to add some custom CSS to match your website’s look and feel.

Step Two: Creating A Landing Page For Instagram

Creating a bio link page is much like building a post in WordPress, the main difference being no post editor. It’s here your social media bio page takes shape.

Adding a MyLink
Adding a MyLink

Adding a MyLink (Bio Page) is simple. It’s broken up into four sections.

The First Section Deals With:

  • Add Title:- Give the MyLink page a title. You can edit the permalink once you save the page.
  • Avatar:- Upload a squared image is preferable, for example, 500px by 500px.
  • Name:- Add a name that will appear under the image.
  • Description:- Text here will appear under the image. Keep it short and to the point.
  • Theme:- Choose from fifteen different themes for your bio page.

Under your description, you can add links to your social media profiles, handy if you’d like to show people where else you can be found on the web, this section lets you add various icons and links.

Platforms supported are as follows: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram, Youtube, and TikTok.

There’s an option to upload icons, in fairness, the icons that WP MyLinks outputs more than suffice. See below for what they look like:

It’s here you can add links you’d like to highlight to visitors. There are a few more options here, all for the betterment of your Instagram bio page. You can add as many links as you’d like here.

WP MyLinks is incredibly easy to use; adding new links is a simple affair. Each link box comprises of three elements:

  • Title:- The text to show on the link box.
  • Link URL:- Add a link you’d like the user to view (opens in a new window).
  • Image:- Each link box (Call to Action) can have an optional image shown at the beginning to entice a visitor to click.

If you have a load of links you’d like to add to your Instagram bio page, you can re-order them very quickly, see below for what we mean:

Final Section Setup Meta Tags

Entirely down to you and what SEO plugin you use. Change the meta title, description, and, as previously mentioned, set to Noindex or Nofollow.

These settings (if you’re using an SEO plugin for WordPress) will get overridden by your SEO plugin.

Step Three: Instagram Bio Page Complete

The above doesn’t make a whole lot of sense without seeing a finished result. Here’s an example of one we made earlier, so you can see how it works.

That’s it; that is all there is to it. Download WP MyLinks, add an image, add a description, social links, and links you’d like to highlight. Choose a theme that represents your website, or make your own with some custom CSS.

Quick Tips to Make Your Instagram Bio Page Stand Out

By now, you’ll have released that WP MyLinks can help you create a stand out profile page for all of your links. We always like to play around with plugins; as a result, we made a few discoveries we think will help even more.

Take a look at another example below, you’ll notice a few new things.

Test Instagram Bio
Test Instagram Bio Page

The theme this time around is Krakatau, a great looking Instagram landing page. You’ll notice that there are a few additions:

  • Emoji in the name field, cut and paste an Emoji to make your name stand out.
  • HTML in the description field, using HTML, you can make the text italic or bold to be more prominent.

It gets better. See below for the same example with some added extras:

Gif Support in WP MyLinks
Gif Support in WP MyLinks

This time around, we tested some GIFs to see if they’d work in WP MyLinks; as you can see, they work very well indeed. We’ve even sneaked in a lightbulb Emoji! We’ve used Canva for the images and elements. Check out our detailed tutorial if you’d like to find out more about Canva.

A profile GIF at the top and each call to action have a mini GIF next to it. May well be overkill; however, we think it’s worthwhile you know you can do this if you decide to use the plugin.

Note the last entry, entitled Electronic Mail. Here you can add a mail to link for example:

mailto:someone@mywebsite.com

Doing this means that when a visitor clicks on the email call to action, it will open up their email client to get in touch.

So we’ve covered how to make a bio page for Instagram, that’s one usage case. Using the same methods, you could create pages for the following:

  • Twitter landing page.
  • TikTok (if you have a big enough following to get a link in the bio).
  • Linkedin landing page.
  • Anywhere you only get one link!

Other potential uses, email signatures, drop in a landing page telling people about you and your business, keep it short and fun.

Make a landing page for your business cards, then have them printed with a link to find out more about you. Have as many landing pages as you need, test them out, add tracking and see what works and what doesn’t.

The plugin is incredibly easy to get up and running, creating a bio page to house all the links you’d like to showcase is a no-brainer.
